Presentation
Saint-Sorlin de Morestel is a small village located at the extreme southern end of the Balcons du Dauphiné region.
The village distinguishes between three different sectors:
- the wooded hillsides of La Frette
- the village itself with its different neighbourhoods
- the marshes which represent 15% of the village's territory.
The Valencey wetlands are listed as an Environmentally Sensitive Area.
The name Saint-Sorlin derives from Saint Saturnin, the parish's patron saint. The church of Saint-Sorlin dates from 1880.
The village also features four ancient washhouses and many building made from rammed earth.
The new school was inaugurated in June 2014.
The school has been run in conjunction with that of Vasselin since September 2004.
Saint-Sorlin boasts a factory, a host of artisans and a strong farming sector.
The map outline of Saint-Sorlin suggests the head of a cow, and there are more heads of cattle than human inhabitants here. These facts are reflected in the design of the village logo.
