Soleymieu stands in northern Isère at the intersection of the roads from Crémieu to Morestel and from Bourgoin to Montalieu.
This typical village features stone houses, a communal furnace, and a number of fountains. Culminating at Chapèze, 367 metres above sea level, it comprises several hamlets: Sablonnières, formerly known for its trade fair, its old town and the ruins of the so-called Château des Dauphins; Couvaloup; Montagnieu with the fortified manor house of Seigneur de Machy, a listed historical monument; and La Roche Montgaudet.
