In the north-eastern part of the Balcons du Dauphiné council community area, the village of Bouvesse-Quirieu comprises a succession of hamlets spread across the hillsides of the Rhône riverbank, facing the mountains of Le Bugey.

Bouvesse-Quirieu is a land of quarries, limestone and cement, where the VICAT cement plant has left its mark on local modern history.

Currently under restoration, the medieval vestiges remind us of Quirieu's rich history. Located by the river, it was a major trading port during the Middle Ages.
Another special feature, dating from 1597, is the Moulin d'Arche, an ancient flour mill which now houses a traditional bakery and a gourmet restaurant.
Just a short distance away, the ancient walnut-oil mill in the hamlet of Chogne is one of very few that are still in operation.
