Save Sensitive Natural Area, étangs de la Serre lakes sector
Presentation
The étangs de la Serre constitute a set of three lakes located in a wooded environment. Various facilities (picnic areas, games, toilets, barbecues) are available. The eastern part of the site is bordered by Via Rhôna.
The étangs de la Serre, located in the village boundaries of Courtenay and Arandon-Passins, constitute a natural area with a total area of 42 hectares. Composed of three lakes, woodland, reed beds, and hedges, the site has a rich environment (it is also part of the European Natura 2000 network and the Save sensitive natural area). Because of its surface area and the many protected and threatened species that it is home to, it is a key area in Isle Crémieu and the preservation of the biodiversity a key challenge. Moreover, one of the site's primary vocations is the preservation of the natural environment.
This site also has a strong recreational and natural value for the residents of the region and beyond. It is managed by the Balcons du Dauphiné Community of towns and villages and the Department of Isère to reconcile these different aspects. Completed in 2016, the Via-Rhôna, which runs along the eastern part of the site, reinforces the recreational character of the site and allows easy access to the étangs de la Serre.
Several low impact facilities allow you to take full advantage of this site while taking into account the environment. Thus, games for children, picnic areas (tables, kiosks, barbecues), toilets,..., are present on the site. A path also leads around the lakes.
Fishing is authorized in certain sections of the lakes (rules and guidelines can be viewed on the site) in order to blend the leisure aspect successfully with the natural heritage.
Nature outings are organised during the summer by ENS guides. These free trips, open to all, are an opportunity to discover the site's flora and fauna with a specialist.
