Montagnieu Fortress
Presentation
The Montagnieu fortress was built 'hugging' (or just above) the town's ramparts. It has a remarkable Dauphine roof and a beautiful porch in the garden
The Canon of Auvergne announced its presence in 1586. Anne Romatier, wife of Marcollin, owned the fortified house known as the Montagnieu tower. In 1587 a testament was written in the lower room near the garden of the Montagnieu fortress.
Over the centuries, it belonged to the Quinsonnas, Bernard de Marigny (farmer general, it was a salt deposit), the Riondels and the Lasseres.
Since 1950, it has been owned by the Franciscan Sisters, who run a bed and breakfast.
