Presentation

In 1885, Alphonse Belmont patented an oil engine that he had fitted to a vehicle made of wood.
He spent time in his workshop developing the concept of the mechanical car and came up with the first internal combustion engine in history.
After studying at the Côte St André seminary and taking lessons in physics and chemistry with a teacher in Lyon, he decided to devote his time to scientific research in order to discover technological means for improving everyday life.
He patented an electric alert system to prevent train collisions and also invented a stopper for lemonade bottles.

He was laid to rest at Vézeronce cemetery.
