Listed as a Historical Monument since 1840, the abbatial church of Saint-Chef is a French benchmark in terms of Romanesque art, with its typical 10th-century architecture, exceptionally well-conserved Romanesque/Byzantine frescoes, and medieval decorative features.
In the interests of safety and due to strict conservational measures, the high chapel, which is reputed for housing the most beautiful Romanesque frescoes of the entire Church, can be visited only by booking ahead for a guided tour. These visits are possible on Sundays at 3 pm, from 12th June to 25th September included, or all year round for group tours (on prior request).
For full details and bookings, contact Saint-Chef Tourist Information Office.
